Drawn from our fishing notebooks and our experiment, the analysis of the best periods and weatherconditions for fly fishing are proposed below.
The very soft climate of the Basque Country, enables us to observe trouts rising on the first insects every year as of January (during the hottest hours). It sometimes happened to us to observe swallows with Christmas!!! (in Arnéguy).
Contrary to neighbors Gaves Béarnais , there are only exceptionally melt waters of snows during the season of fishing.

The fishing season
Suggested flies below are not many or varied, but they reflect the contents of our flies box which gives us all satisfactions on Nives.

March : **** flies of the month:
The opening at the beginning of the month, when we do it, it is exclusively with the fly and always after the passage of the crowd of the toqueurs who are on-site at dawn. While arriving at the edge of water towards 11h, there is already much less world, and the fish put the nose again surfaces some until approximately 15/16h.
Without carrying out fishing parties mirobolantes we regretted only seldom this first day.
As the month advances, fishing (with the fly) becomes increasingly interesting. The blossomings multiply in particular those of gray olives with yellowish body (baétis), with precedes of it the appearance of the grosses "March brown".

April: ***** flies of the month:
Our favorite month, the fish are really active on the majority of the rivers. The blossomings are supported and diversify, the levels of the rivers fluctuate which enable us to practise a daring wading (even dangerous), often rewarded by beautiful fish which remain hidden by normal level.
With our opinion, it is really the period to be privileged.

May: **** flies of the month:
A good month for the fly, but with temperatures clearly in rise. The insects are numerous, but in the event of strong heats (+ of 30°), you are likely to have to await the blow of the evening (already) to observe regular gobages.
In May, the day, we prospect much more by fishing water. The fish are very attentive with the surface activity what enables us to carry out beautiful fishing parties, but making more efforts than in April.

June: *** flies of the month:
As for the previous month, the conditions weather are likely to be hot even canicular. The blows of the evening will be then the moments privileged to carry out the best blows of line.
Especially not to miss the rainy days, during which you will be able to profit from splendid opportunities.

July: ** flies of the month:
If you come for the summer holidays, it will not be cavity not in July/August that you will be able to discover the true potential of Nives.
At the time of rainy episodes or then with the blow of the evening it will be possible for you to amuse you well.
In day, it will be always possible for you to fish water in the constant currents and the shaded parts of the rivers. With the blow of the evening, the micro flies and the long ones low of line in 10 or 8 hundredths will be often essential to touch some fish.

August: ** flies of the month:
August hardly differs from the precedent as for the strategy to be used, if it is not by the still increased difficulty because of the frequentation of the rivers, and their levels in fall.

September: **** flies of the month:
About fifteen days not to be neglected, with the return of freshness and the rains, it are possible to carry out very beautiful blows of lines.
The fish are very often visible surfaces some during the day, they benefit from the beautiful blossomings of small gray olives.

The favorable conditions weather:

RAIN (MODERATE): In general, the rainy periods are most interesting, more particularly the showers of spring. Well on it is not the most pleasant time, but while being correctly protected, the blow appropriatenesses beautiful of line will quickly make you forget moisture.

The STORM: Without you to encourage with imprudence, the storms were always favorable to usFishing in this circumstance is frequently disadvised per a halieutic number of authors.
