The big Nive

NIVES BETTER PERIODS

course of old mill, few kilometers downstream of St Jean Pied de Port

Powerful "Big Nive" is formed by the addition of water of the "Laurhibar", Nive of "Béhérobie" and with that "of Arnéguy", meeting downstream from "St Jean Pied de Port" to the place says "three water".

Upstream village "of Ossès" it is still reinforced by water of the "Nive of Baïgory". Its course is rather fast, until the outlet of the "Pas de Roland " near the village of "Itxassou". Then it run slowly to Bayonne where it meets Adour.
The fish are can be fewer, but reach consequent average sizes, without speaking about sea trouts and the salmons which can be captured there.

To have special information on salmon (or sea trout) fishing on Nive, visit the wery good website of association SALMONS OF NIVES (in French) which works with the restoration of a fishing of quality. Do not hesitate to support them, they have much courage but few means.
