On this page, do not hope to find the magic fly which will save you for empty handed, nor the apology for the last technology as regards fly rod or for reel.

With our humble opinion, correct and adapted material, simple and solid flies having proven reliable, will enable you to exploit the potential of Nives in all circumstances.

With the risk to repeat us, your true concern, more than of the doubts about the flies or the material must be discretion, the saving in gestures and a good observation of the river.


The fly rod:
After having tested many sizes and actions, which now has our preference it is rather a rod from 9,5 to 10 feet (or more) for line 4, and of semi parabolic action.
This material is adapted to the majority of the conditions met on Nives, i.e. fishes it out of fast water.
We almost always practise with a great saving in gestures, a minimum of shoots, a direct shoot in the ideal.
Such a rod, with its lengthening-piece and its arm of lever enables us to overhang the veins of sharp currents and thus to delay to the maximum dredging, launched to roll in is also facilitated.
If possible do not employ a rod of a high price, indeed the bed and the banks of the rivers are often very slipping and the breaking of a rod consecutive to a fall is to be considered (good-bye ' ' Scott '' - ' ' Sage '' and other ' ' Pezon and Michel '' which we broke ).

The Council: To banish the guide gilded or silver plated and carries it matched winch which are extremely likely to betray your presence.
The reel and line, the bottom of line:
As for the rod, a model adapted to fast water fishing and advised. A semi-automatic or automatic reel (standard Vivarelli or cordel) will avoid you get tangled in the loops of your line trailing in the current.

We chose to furnish the reel with a natural line of type "Robinson" or other, N° 4. This type of line being very fine, discretion is some increased.
The bottom of line which gives us any satisfaction and of type "tipet without knots", with a point made up of one (or two bits according to the circumstances) from approximately 50 to 60 cm. What gives a bottom of line from 3,5 to 4 meters.
The Council: as for the rod, to avoid the sparkling reel.

Flies:
With approximately 3 types of fly, in various sizes, colors and materials of assembly you can succeed very well on Nives during all the season.

At the beginning of season, "cul de canard" small and gray with yellow body for the hatches of baètis. And during the appearance of the big March Brown CDC N°12 - 14 body brownish (dubbing of seal) floating high to use on the fast currents.

When the season is advanced and that temperatures increase (May - June), the size of the insects present is generally decreasing. We employ then more often of the small (see tiny) ears hare. Sedges in the tone brown or gray are also quite useful to fish water or with the blow of the evening.

Behaviours of fishing:
In this field, discretion must be really your concern, we could not too advise you to have equipment being based in the decoration.
Solidity is also very significant, the area being a cattle-rearing area, the barbed wire of iron are omnipresent, without forgetting the many hard bush marking out the banks.

With the type of fishing any grounds which we practise, nothing lasts very a long time. This is why after having made not badly of tests, we chose the option of rustic and not very expensive equipment.

As Wader : we use the bottom of diving suit thickness 5 mm (oversize) size XXL (it remains much of space for a sweater or the waistcoat, and the air circulates well), with a pair of slippers of diving. For approximately 60 $ you will find these two articles in blowup in the stores ("Decathlon "for example) at Autumn or the beginning of winter.
Well on water penetrates in this type of wader, but it is quickly at good temperature. We are hardly wetter than with a truth wader and the perspiration which it generates.

More especially as even with a water entry caused by a barbed wire, water will be evacuated by bottom, contrary to the tight wader which will weigh down you considerably.
A reinforcement with the knees is strongly advised, the joining of a neoprene part makes the deal very well.

Shoes: they are subjected also to very hard test and do not last more than one season our choice quickly went towards ankle boots in fabric or will cordura standard "Pataugas" of excursion. For approximately 20 $, we always found a model of this type.

To note, that they should absolutely be chosen approximately 2 sizes up yours. And to put a pair of large socks (old), to avoid the abrasion of the slippers of diving by the fine gravels which will return in the shoes.
